VILLA ALBERTINE
Documenting the declining presence of palm trees in the city of Los Angeles as they near the end of their lifespan.
My research will be both documentary and artistic.
FIRST SHOOTINGS

One day, close to the LACMA, while observing palm branches swaying in the wind, I felt how alive they were. I then perceived the palm trees almost like insects, at least they felt beyond the realm of plants, really animated by a vibrant life. That’s what I wish my collages to convey.

VISUAL NOTES - Details

Looking at trunks, I see marks, like scarifications or inprints of an individual. I consider maybe trunk inprints in plaster, or surface drawings by frottage.
I also wish I can collecting dry fronds and branches for 3D or pictorial works.

HISTORICAL PICTURES

Consider a collage of the historical context of planting palm trees.Maybe associating the cars as a background of that automotive city.

Planting palm trees in Los Angeles. First one introduced in 1888.
To be researched
In 1931 alone, Los Angeles' forestry division planted more than 25,000 palm trees, many of them still swaying above the city's boulevards today. This massive planting effort—conceived by the city's first forestry chief, L. Glenn Hall—is often characterized as a beautification project for the 1932 Olympic games.
